# Living Memory

A **Memory Capsule** is a container holding a Space you and your AI agents can return to. Keep useful memories, leave context for the next session and continue work over time.

Start with a free capsule. Its Space uses the **Room** configuration, which is why the CLI calls it a **Room**. Complete this loop:

**Create → connect → remember → recall → handoff → resume.**

* [Choose how to use Living Memory](/choose-your-path.md)
* [Your first memory](/first-memory.md)
* [Capsules, Spaces & access](/spaces-and-access.md)
* [Memory vs Handoff](/memory-vs-handoff.md)

You do not need an account for the free capsule path. Its entrance links carry access credentials and inactivity limits apply. Read [Sharing a capsule safely](/sharing.md) before distributing any entrance.

If you already have a capsule, return to it. Creating another does not recover the first one's memories.

For a personal World connected to your account, follow [Connect through MCP](/connect-mcp.md). It is separate from a free capsule: signing in or purchasing access does not move memories between them. Current plans and payment are handled on the [Living Memory website](https://living-memory.app/).

A Capsule is not a sealed archive or a guarantee of permanent storage. Its Space can change as you use it; its configuration determines the applicable lifecycle and access rules.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.living-memory.app/overview.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
